Links with Scotland

Our exchange links with young musicians from the Isle of Skye is now reaching its sixth year. Sponsored by Iomairt Cholmcille, groups from Skye have visited Armagh three times and Armagh musicians have attended Feis an Earraigh twice. The exchange has broadened the pupils' appreciation of music from other cultures and forged great friendships among the participants. A group of musicians from Skye (Fiona McAskill, Angus Nicholson, Deirdre Graham and Ishbel Strachan) traveled to Prince Edward Island to take part in the 200th anniversary commemoration of emigration from Skye to Canada.

Sean-nós na n-Óg

Since 1999 the Club has been involved in developing sean-nós singing - both in Irish and in Scots Gaelic. A number of master classes have been held and pupils attended Féile na nAmhrán in Mullaghbane. A group of APC pupils were invited to participate in Sean-nós na n-Óg, an innovative celebration of traditional singing in Irish for young people. Over 100 young singers from all the Gaeltacht areas as well as Dublin, Armagh and the Isle of Lewis came together at Éigse Dhiarmaidín in Cúil Aodha, Co. Cork for a performance of traditional singing and were also invited to Féile 2002 in Galway at Easter.
